Mager Special News Coverage – Wednesday, September 28, 2022 (Meskerem 18, 2015 EC)

Today’s Mager news updates are as follows:

  • Ethnic cleansing and genocide of Amharas in Wollega continues and the EHRC’s press statement;
  • Recognizing the sacrifices of allied forces as they continue to repel TPLF’s invasion into Raya/North Wollo.

This week, more than 200 Amharas were brutally killed in Amuru and Jartega Jarte Woredas of Horo Guduru Wollega Zone.

The intensified extermination of Amharas has continued in the Gobo Qochele area bordering Haru according to Mager Media’s sources.

The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) issued a press release on Monday, September 26, 2022 (Meskerem 16, 2015 EC) regarding the massacres of Amharas in Horo Guduru Wollega. The statement stated more than 100 civilians were killed and though it stated the involvement of the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) or Oromo Liberation Front “OLF” Shene, it also cited involvement of “Amhara irregular armed militants” to portray residents defending themselves from targeted attacks as perpetrators, part of a coordinated propaganda campaign involving the ruling Oromo Prosperity Party, Oromo Federalist Congress, OLF and Oromo Media Network to cover up the state-sanctioned genocide.

The TPLF’s invasion into Raya has been met by resistance from Misraq Amhara Fano and members of the special forces which have neutralized a TPLF army commander (colonel rank) and a large number of TPLF soldiers, according to local sources which spoke to Mager Media. In this fighting, Fano Ashenafi Alemu, known as the “fortress destroyer” was martyred.

Misraq Amhara Fano’s leader, Shaleqa Mire Wedajo from the war front issued the following message to the greater Amhara people,

A freedom fighter can be martyred during their struggle. Fano Ashenafi Alemu was a great freedom fighter and leader. Other freedom fighters have also been martyred. The greater Amhara people’s tears will only dry once the invading Woyane forces are removed from Amhara lands. Now we must rise up united and get rid of our enemy.”

Mager Media had previously met with Fano Ashenafi Alemu in Woldia city where he was interviewed.

Mager Media remembers Fano Ashenafi Alemu and all those who gave their lives for their people and offers condolences to their families.
